Historisk museum

Various ethnographic and historic exhibitions in classic old building. Beautiful Viking age artefacts. Painted wooden ceiling taken from an old church was very impressive. Tickets are valid the following day also.

Quite stale and unimaginative setup compared to many modern museums. Feels old school (not in a good way) to just put an item on display in a sterile room without context, like the Vikingr exhibition. The Collapse exhibition was a little bit more evocative so hopefully this is the direction they are going.

Da vi var avhengig av handikap parkering denne dagen(har blått hc kort) leste jeg att det fantes 2 plasser bak bygget der de ansatte parkerer. Problemet var att det var stengt med bom. Så man måtte gå inn i museet og få de til å åpne bommen. Litt klønete for en som sitter i rullestol. Da vi ringte og spurte hvordan vi kom inn , ble vi først fortalt att de ikke hadde handikap parkering, men hun ba oss gå!! Inn i butikken for å sjekke. Der ble jeg møtt av en meget hyggelig og hjelpsom vekter. Problem nr 2 er att det holdt ikke med det blåe HC kortet, vi måtte også laste ned en app og legge inn en kode fra ett kort som måtte hentes i museums butikken…. Det hold altså ikke på statlig grunn og bare legge HC kortet i vinduet som vanlig..Utrolig klønete, pluss utstillingen vi var der for å se(samuraienes historie) var i 4 etg uten heis eller tilrettelagt for handikappede!!Dette er for dårlig av Historisk museum!!Utstillingen var topp!!

Does not tell the story of Norway. Just tiny bits of stone age arrowheads, some merovingian jewelry and viking weapons and a little bit about medieval churches. The rest is some weird conceptual stuff that they want you to sit and read a 30(!) page pamphlet to understand. Too much about other regions of the world.I would rather have a Historical museum that told the story of Norway from the beginning to at least the reformation.They want you to sit after reading the pamphlet and contemplate around the theme “Control”. Completely unrealistic to expect of visitors with a limited amount of time.

Small and humble, but decent exhibits. The staff is friendly and the building itself is interesting.

Jeg kom hit med onkelen min mens vi utforsket byen. Vi bestemte oss for å besøke dette stedet og skannet QR-koden på et skilt utenfor for å kjøpe billett på nettet. Ingenting fungerte på nettsiden, og vi klarte ikke å kjøpe en billett i det hele tatt. Så bestemte vi oss for å kjøpe en billett inne i bygningen. Når vi gikk inn, var hele rommet fylt av folk som ikke visste hva de gjorde. Sikkerhetsvakten var forvirret og stresset, og han pekte oss i retning av gavebutikken. Der forklarte vi vårt billettproblem, og de ga oss armbånd. Vi hadde noen problemer med oppbevaringsskapene for å legge fra oss tingene våre. Vi låste døren, men det viste seg at vi trengte et nøkkelkort, og det var det ingen skilt som informerte oss om. Etter å ha forklart dette til sikkerhetsvakten, gikk vi gjennom museet. Det var ganske kjedelig der, ingen morsomme ting å se på, ingenting interessant. I ett mørkt rom måtte vi skanne QR-koder for å forstå hva hver ting var, men det var altfor mørkt til å skanne dem med telefonen. Vi forsto ingenting i det hele tatt. Vi vil absolutt ikke anbefale å kaste bort pengene dine på dette museet.

Visited this place today around 3 pm. It's open till 5 pm. Tickets were 100kr each. However, student tickets are available for 70kr per person.We were given a locker to leave our belongings prior to checking the museum.There are 4 floors on this musem.First floor is comprised of ancient Norwegian artifacts and sculptures as well as the statue of Jesus on the cross.While arriving on the second floor, we noticed Egyptian historical artifacts which were truely amazing. There was even a mumi. You could also see some historical gold coins.On the third floor, we saw the world's oldest rune stone. This was truely fascinating. Make sure you check it out.Now to the fourth floor. This floor was my favourite. It had fantastic samurai swords and figurings and artifacts from Japan. Everything was displayed flawlessly.I've added some photos of this experience, make sure to check them out.Overall, I'd give this museum a 9 out of 10 rating. Staff were very friendly, and place was clean and everything was explained with the greatest detail in both English and Norwegian languages. However, I deduct 1 point because of the amount of noise from kids messing about. I had expected that the staff would tell them to stop messing and running in the place just to keep the noise down. But that didn't happen.

Me and my two children went here yesterday and enjoyed it greatly. The prices for adults and students are affordable and kids are free. The actual expositions and artifacts are all interesting and thought-provoking. The samurai section especially was both informative and interesting to look at. Not to mention the Viking section containing rare ancient artifacts which were amazing to look at. Besides the actual museum, the museum shop was also full of interesting books and trinkets. Overall a great experience.

It's included in the Oslo Pass. The museum has a nice selection of things on display, put felt a bit sterile and soulless. The best part was the Samurai exhibition. Staff was really friendly and helpful.
