The Viking farm at Avaldsnes, Bukkøy (Vikinggården på Avaldsnes, Bukkøy)
Interesting Viking farm rather than a village. A very informative couple run the farm as it would have in the past and started out having local children stay so learning the countries history first hand. The only downside was the 15 to 20 minute walk to get there.

I love history so this really floated my boat! The museum is worth a visit & it has English audio headsets & English translation plaques on the walls. The farm was very interesting with live 'actors' who are very knowledgeable. I smelt of wood smoke for quite a while after! It's quite a walk, about 15-20mins dependant on your ability and it's not wheelchair friendly really, loads of gravel paths, walking through woods etc. An all terrain scooter would be great though. The walk is very scenic, beautiful and very windy and cold! The church holds interesting history also as well as the doomsday needle outside leaning towards the wall of the church - if it touches the church wall we're all doomed I tell you!!! I think the guide says it's 14cm away atm. The guide was again very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Reasonable prices for Norway so worth the visit.

Fun and very informative. Our guide gave us an incredible amount of information about the Viking society and way of living. I would definitely visit again.

very interesting place. They provide audio units in English where you receive a description of each exhibit. The farm was a long walk and some serious uphill sections. If you have not walked a couple miles recently or can't walk steep rides, don't go.

The Viking farm at Avaldsnes, Bukkøy (Vikinggården på Avaldsnes, Bukkøy)
Decent recreation of various Viking buildings, but it's very obvious (and they make no secret of it) that the village is used as a summer camp for schoolchildren and not as an entirely authentic experience. Close up many parts appear quite bashed and run down, but overall it's an interesting place to see. Guided tours were excellent with a lot of great information from the friendly and enthusiastic guides. The footpath from the museum to the village is mostly loose stones. It's completely impassable for a wheelchair, and barely passable pushing a buggy or pram so take that into account if it applies to you.Made the mistake of visiting just as a huge group from a cruise ship arrived so it was very crowded for a time.

An interesting trip back in time to what feels like a living village.

We were here during an excursion, organiced from the cruise company, we traveled and we think, it is a cool and very valuable place to see. Also, hearing about the main reason for it, being a place to show school kids how the vikings lived in the early ages, it is a very cool and amazing project. Congratulations!!!!!

Great in character talk given by the host who was dressed in Viking garb. Great to see the type of house that the Vikings lived in in those times

What a breathtaking place to truly see the way of vikings. I wish I could live here myself. Seeing the young children there working, going to school, was really eye opening. We paid for a tour here when we got off of our cruise ship, and are so glad we did! We learned so many new things, got a chance to view the beautiful area on the farm, and the Viking guide was AMAZING! We would listen to him talk all day if we could! Don't miss this on your next visit to Norway! My only advice would be to visit on your own and not through a cruise shore excursion, as those are very rushed and you can't take everything in like you could if you visited Norway on your own and got to choose how long you visit places!
