Karl Johans is to Oslo what Times Square is to New York and Oxford Sreet is to London. This beautiful pedestrian only street goes up to Royal Palace on one side. We were a bit suspicious of this street as everyone had told us how great it was, so we had ideas of 'tourist central' like Oxford Street in London or Las Ramblas in Barcelona.However, we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds.The street is quite wide and full of bars, restaurants and cafés but while quite busy is is also quite chilled and you don't have to worry about pickpockets although being ever sensible while abroad is advisable - just in case.The Grand Café and National Theatre buildings are en route to the harbour and are pretty impressive.
