Unik historie

Perfect stopover. Museum beside the river. Good collections of music instruments (violins, guitars and a few piano and organs). Clean toilet and entrance is free. Outside the museum has a place where you can sit and enjoy your coffee.

great little museum dedicated to norwegian folkmusic, with live music on this special doubledekker violin. Good for kids who like to dance.

AMAZING museum that beautifully displays the history and traditions of the unique Setesdal folk music community. Here you can learn about how the hardanger fiddle is constructed and how the jew's harp is made as well. I really enjoyed seeing all the pictures, portraits and paintings on display as well as the actual instruments which are adorned so beautifully along side photographs and special items from that time and or belonging to the musicians. To my surprise there was a free mini concert by Eivind Tanche Knutsen. He was a very nice and kind guide there and took the time to answer all my questions. He has a lot of knowledge about the local instruments and plays them beautifully. I really enjoyed this little concert. It was a total treat I wasn't expecting. I really hope they expand even more and next time I visit I'd love to take a shirt or some memento with me from this museum. It exceeded my expectations none the less and I love the accessibility to getting to meet with the local players in the area. Just wonderful and fantastic. My favorite place in Rysstad no doubt about it.
