Åmotan

This location is simply fantastic. The waterfall and the surroundings are just beautiful.

Et unikt naturfenomen i Norge. Bratte fjellstup, morenerygger og terasser skaper et vifteformet elvesystem der syv vassdrag møtes. Tre av elvene danner storslagne fossefall ned i Åmotan. Området er tilrettelagt med godt merkede stier med tilhørende kart. Alle stiene gir fantastiske naturopplevelser i et helt særegent landskap. Parkering koster 30kr. Lengde fra parkeringsplass til fossefall er 1.6 km en vei. Men veien er bratt (stigning 103m).

En flott naturattraksjon med alle fossene som samles på ett sted. Kort gåtur (ca 20-30 minutter) fra parkeringsplassen på Jenstad, øverst i Sunndal.Området er også en del av en større rundtur man kan gjøre i fossenes rike.

My husband and I visited Åmotan during our July honeymoon and it was a major highlight for us, though we were lucky to find out it was there, thanks to a leaflet in Norwegian at our Airbnb rather than a Google maps or Tripadviser search. It is signposted from the main road. There is a spacious car park and a toilet. We enjoyed lunch on a bench at the river confluence looking up at one of the waterfalls, which is a short downhill walk through a small wood, from the car park. Walks around Åmotan are not clearly advertised in the car park. Fortunately we met some walkers who advised us to follow the red dots marked intermittently on trees. The route starts to the right of the bridge and initially takes a sustained steep incline through woods before continuing through farmland and forestry tracks. It took us 2-3 hours and we had brilliant views of the waterfalls and surrounding mountains. Highly recommended but take water because its quite strenuous at times!
